Abukumagawa-River and its Express Train

Abukumagawa-River starts at Mt. Asahidake in Nishigou Village. It is 239km and has a 5,390㎢ wide basin that runs through Fukushima and Miyagi Prefectures. Nearby, in the bordering prefectures, the Abukuma mountain range runs parallel to national Route 349 and the third sector Abukuma Express train. The railroad extends 54km long and connects Miyagi and Fukushima Prefectures.

The express train is popular among the local people who travel to the various sightseeing spots. Hanamiyama Mountain, located near the river shore, has flowers that bloom all year round to the delight of tourists and citizens alike. The mountain has been eternalized in pictures year after year by famed Japanese photographer, Shoutaro Akiyama. Shinobuyama Mountain, the symbol of Fukushima City, is fondly remembered in the Japanese poem “Haiku”,“Oku no Hosomichi”.
