
The Sado gold mine was found in 1601, and prospered for the following three decades. Annual outputs of those days were said to be 440 kg of gold and 40 t of silver. Today, a bar of gold that weighs 12.5 kg is on display at Sado gold mine Museum.

Itoigawa river, is the largest Jade production center in Japan. Itoigawa riverbed is preserved as a natural monument designated by the national government, and quarrying is banned. At the Fossa Magna Museum, a huge unfinished jade with a diameter of 2 meters is exhibited.
