Vermillion-thread Samurai armor with helmet and arm-protectors (Kushihiki-Hachiman Shrine, hachinohe city) (National treasure)

Yoroi and Kabuto are armors and helmets worn by Samurai warriors during wars. This particular armor and helmet set, regularly worn by a feudal lord of the Nambu clan in Aomori, is designated as a national treasure. They still tell us sophisticated gilding techniques of the Kamakura period (the 12th to 13th century) when Samurai warriors gained power, replacing the aristocracy.

Samurai sword named "Sanemori"(Takateru Shrine, Iwaki town) (Important Cultural Asset designated by Aomori prefectural government)

This sword was made by Sanemori, a master swordsmith of the 12th to 13th century. In those days, swords were not just weapons, but were treated as souls of their owners. Because it has no traces of being modified or retouched, this Samurai sword is high in aesthetic value and prized as a superb article that still communicates the craftsmanship of the master goldsmith of 800 years ago. The original owner of this sword is said to be Nobumasa, the fourth feudal lord of the Tsugaru clan.
