Environmental Management SystemTo steadily implement the Mid-Term Environmental Action Plan, we have clarified the system to promote the plan and the responsibility setup, and introduced the Environmental Management System (EMS) based on our Plan-Do-Check-Action (PDCA) cycle to address continuous improvement of environmental activities. As part of the introduction of the EMS, we have acquired certifications of ISO 14001, an international environmental management standard, for all of our thermal power stations and Onagawa Nuclear Power Station with a view to reducing impact on the environment.
EMS Promoting StructureWe have organized a promoting structure directly linked to corporate management for the appropriate operation of the EMS. Council to Promote Measures to Cope with Global Environmental IssuesThe council, chaired by the president, is intended to promote various measures arresting global environmental issues by judging from comprehensive standpoints. Environmental Management CommitteeChaired by the chief of overall environmental management affairs (executive vice president), the committee deliberates on Tohoku EPCo's overall environmental management, such as formulating, evaluating, and revising policies and plans. Tohoku EPCo Group Environmental CommitteeThe committee, composed of the general managers of the Environmental Affairs Departments of Tohoku EPCo and its affiliated companies, deliberates on the Group's overall environmental management, such as formulating, evaluating, and revising policies and plans.
Responsibility SetupUnder the “chief of overall EM affairs” (executive vice president), we have allocated an “EM manager” at each of our offices and establishments (general managers of Head Office's departments and branch offices, deputy general managers of branch offices, managers of offices and establishments, and deputy superintendents of power stations) to clarify who is responsible for environmental management at each office and establishment. In addition, we have assigned an employee of each office and establishment to the “post of EM manager,” who is responsible for liaison and general coordination work in environmental activities, and selected about 400 “eco-leaders,” who act as facilitators in environmental activities at respective sections and groups throughout the Company.
