Tohoku Electric Power Co., Inc. Environmental Action Report 2007

Environmental Management at Head Office, Branch Offices, Customer Services Offices, Engineering Centers, and Other Offices

Environmental Management at Branch Offices, Customer Services Offices, Engineering Centers, and Other Offices

Our offices and establishments including branch offices, customer services offices, and engineering centers have established their respective environmental management regime for which their respective general manager acts as “chief of overall EM affairs” and their respective deputy general manager acts as “environmental management manager.”

Furthermore, they are making efforts toward the continuous improvement of the environmental activities under the guideline of Plan-Do-Check-Action while planning, evaluating and reviewing the actual performance in each environmental committee and at other opportunities about “Energy and Resources Conservation in Office” for all business offices and “Items Originally Set” of each business office.

Energy and Resources Conservation in Office By “making a practice of copying on both sides,” “thoroughly using the reverse side of miscopy,” “turning off lighting and OA equipment as often as possible” and other means, each business office has made efforts to reduce the consumption of copy papers, electricity, water, and fuel and the amount of emissions from general waste.
Items Originally Set Continuous improvement of various environmental activities including, among others, “reduction in power loss,” “reduction in SF6 emissions,” “expanded reuse and recycling of materials and equipment,” “expansion of green procurement,” “proper management of wastes,” “active development of environmental communications,” and “enhancement of environmental education” is sought in a specific manner at each office.
TOPICS Eco Office Activities

Since April 2007, we have been promoting eco office activities with an aim to horizontally promote ingenious efforts for environmental protection at offices and establishments and local cooperation activities and continuously promote such activities. Moreover, those offices and establishments that conduct activities that can be advertised to other offices and establishments are designed as “more eco offices” and certificates are issued to such offices and establishments.

At the same time, the Environmental Affairs Department gives PDCA support to each office and establishment with an aim to further raise the level of company-wide environment activities.

Reduction of Wastes by Using Personal Chopsticks and Personal Shopping Bag
We work to reduce plastic bags by making a blanket purchase of personal shopping bags and encouraging employees to bring their personal shopping bags when they buy packed lunches. All of the employees of the office have their personal chopsticks to reduce wastes by prohibiting use of disposable wooden chopsticks and making it unnecessary to add disposable wooden chopsticks to packed lunches ordered.

Other Efforts

  • To promote the efforts not to use paper through utilization of OA equipment such as reduction in documents to be distributed by using projectors, etc.
  • To develop environmental awareness by sticking energy conservation and resource conservation stickers.
Sendai Engineering Center

Enhancement of environmental awareness by conducting “eco inspection” activities in the center
We endeavor to maintain and raise the environmental awareness of employees of the center by conducting “eco inspection” in the office once a month concerning unused OA equipment, lights out at unused places, and disposal of recyclables.

Other Efforts

  • We applied for the certificate for the “eco smile office as an environment-friendly establishment” from the Sendai municipal government to raise the environmental awareness of employees of the center (already certified).
  • We conducted cleaning around the center and at dams.
