Environmental Activities in Close Cooperation with Local Communities
Our concept of environmental communications is to disclose information about the status of our efforts toward solving environmental problems and to take in the opinions and evaluations received from customers for the improvement toward next step while considering environmental activities and implementing such activities together with the local residents.
Our Company and our Company Group are actively pursuing in unison the environmental preservation activities with the local residents.
Especially in Environmental Awareness Month which is June, many activities such as tree planting and afforestation, resources recycling, environmental lectures, and delivery energy lectures by our personnel are organized, and in the Environmental Awareness Month in FY2005, a total of about 280 activities and programs were implemented in our offices and establishments and about 14,000 local residents participated in those activities.

ECO Life Talk
In June 2005, Tohoku EPCo held at its Head Office "ECO Life Talk--Think about Environment in Life" to think together with local residents, about the importance that every citizen becomes aware of environmental issues such as global warming as problems close to himself or herself and takes action to resolve them.
On the day of the event, Ms. EPO, a singer, held a talk show and an acoustic live performance under the title of "Wonderful ECO Life" of her idea. Then, a talk session titled "What We Can Do" was held by Ms. EPO, Ms. Ann MacDonald, professor of Miyagi University, and Mr. Toshihiko Nakata, professor of Graduate School of Tohoku University, and the event offered an opportunity to promote communications about environment with about 200 participants.

Kanita Service Center of Aomori Customer Services Office cleaned traffic lights in its service area in cooperation with the local police stations. In cooperation with local electrical engineering contractors, the center used bucket trucks and carefully cleaned traffic lights one by one.

Iwate Branch Office invited Mr. Masamitsu Morita, a weather forecasting reporter, and held a lecture titled "Relations between Weather and Global Environment," providing the customers at the lecture with an opportunity to raise their awareness about global environmental issues.

Yokote Customer Services Office has participated in the "public facility citizen supporter system" that is operated by the Yokote municipal government, and conduct activities every month to clean roads and public facilities in the city. This year is the third year of such cleaning activities that all employees of the customer services office participate in.

Miyagi Branch Office held "Water and Forest Workshop" (7 sessions in total) at Sankyozawa Electricity 100th Year Hall. A total of 270 parents and children including 126 groups who participated through public invitation learned the importance of water and forest through experiments and nature observation.

Mogami River Swan Park clean operation
Sakata Customer Services Office cleaned the place where swans come flying (Swan Park) at the mouth of the Mogami River in cooperation with a local club of those who love swans, companies concerned, retirees of Tohoku EPCo. A total of 33 persons participated in the cleaning. It was the 14th cleaning.

Baryo Park planting activities
Sousou Customer Services Office conducts planting activities at Baryo Park in Soma city under the joint sponsorship of the Soma municipal government, women's society, and Company groups. The Customer Services Office planted 2,000 flower seedlings together with kindergartners participating in the event.

Nagaoka Customer Services Office participated in the tree planting activity named "Manabi no Mori (Forest School)" that was hosted by the "Club of Visiting Wild Plants and Grasses and Studying Vegetation in Niigata Prefecture," an incorporated nonprofit organization. A total of 41 employees and their family members participated and planted beech seedlings.
