Internal Environmental Auditing

The Office of Internal Auditors sets themes and conducts internal environmental auditing every year, reports the results of auditing to the management, finds problems, proposes improvements, and promotes horizontal expansion of activities of this type.

In FY2004, Tohoku EPCo carried out internal environmental auditing at 38 offices and establishments*.

* The number of offices and establishments audited in FY2004 came to 38.
(7 branch offices, 3 thermal power stations and power plant siting office, 21 customer services offices, and 7 engineering centers)

  • Status of progress of environmental management to realize ecologically-minded management

Major viewpoints

  • Status of progress of regional environmental preservation, resources conservation and 3R measures
    To verify the activities closely related to the ecologically-minded management declared in the Mid-Term Environment Action Plan such as the status of progress and effectiveness of the environmental management system that is integral with business operations, and the efficiency and adequacy of waste management system.

Observation

  • The energy and resources conservation activities close to routine operations have taken root. Moreover, efforts to contribute to society are made by each of the offices and establishments such as cleaning activities, volunteer activities to keep watch on illegal dumping of wastes in close cooperation with local communities, etc.
  • There were some cases where the effective use of industrial wastes (circuit boards, etc.) produced by decommissioning of large plants was promoted, and the reduction in environmental impact was compatible with economics.
  • There were some cases where improvements were necessary for outsourced waste disposal operations and the issuance of manifests.

Responsive measures

  • To further enhance the awareness of employees about the environment and share the precedent cases of activities through meetings and eco-leader education.
  • To ensure waste management, and improve consultation services for company-wide waste disposal and waste management.
