Reduction in Loss of Transmission, Transformation and Distribution Facilities

Tohoku EPCo aims its efforts at reducing fuel consumptions by thermal power stations and CO2 emissions by reducing the loss of electric power due to transmission, transformation and distribution. Its transmission and distribution loss factor in FY2004 was as low as 5.7% and its overall loss factor was 9.3% as a result of its efforts such as improvement of efficiency of load dispatching operation, in addition to measures for equipment.

The annual amount of electricity recovered from transmission and transformation equipment was 1,230,000 kWh and that from distribution equipment was 16 million kWh.

Introduction of Low-Loss Transformers and Phase Modifying Equipment, and Automatic Control of Operation Box Dehumidifying Heater

Tohoku EPCo is making an effort to reduce power loss by adopting low-loss materials for transformers and phase modifying equipment at substations. The power consumption by dehumidifying heaters in operation boxes at power plants and substations is also reduced by automatically controlling the dehumidifying heaters.

We are trying to reduce transmission loss by adopting "low-loss finned wires" that can reduce electric resistance by 20% or more.

In FY2004, the low-loss finned wires were used for an overall distance of 517 kilometers.
