Results of Survey by Questionnaire

We conducted a customer survey on "Environmental Action Report 2004," and in the survey, asked for "questions and opinions concerning environmental issues."

The following is a summary of respondents' questions and opinions, and our replies.

How About Your Impression After Reading the Environmental Action Report?

About 80% of the respondents favorably evaluated the report by replying: "Easy to understand."

On the other hand, some respondents gave such opinions as "a little too much in detail" and "too many pages." In response, we made changes in the fiscal 2005 edition, incorporating more photographs, charts, diagrams, and definitions of technical terms in the new version for the purpose of helping readers grasp the contents more easily. Fewer pages of the Report were made possible by streamlining the presentation of data and information.

Excerpts of Respondents' Questions and Opinions, and Our Replies

Prevention of Global Warming

The increase of the CO2 emission intensity in FY2003 is a serious problem. I think that Tohoku EPCo should explain the reasons behind it.

I hope that Tohoku EPCo strives to reduce the CO2 emission intensity derived from its power generation facilities by 6% compared with the reference level of 1990.

The CO2 emission intensity in FY2003 increased owing to extensions of inspections at our nuclear power stations.

We are determined to make every effort to control global warming, through such measures as making most of nuclear power generation.

I would like to know what Tohoku EPCo plans to do about new energies.

I wonder if it is better for Tohoku EPCo to use more new energies for power generation.

We are committed to further using new energies, through such measures as purchasing surplus electricity from wind and photovoltaic power generation, etc. The amount of wind power-generated electricity we purchased accounted for about 40% of the overall wind power-generated electricity now available nationwide.

Resources Conservation and Recycling

I hear that at Tohoku EPCo, the effective use rate of wastes reached 92.7%. I would like to see zero emissions achieved through more efforts.

We will continue our efforts to further promote the effective use of wastes.

Environmental Management

I would like to know about Tohoku EPCo's future environmental policy and philosophy in detail.

I would very much like Tohoku EPCo to carry through environmental management thoroughly and in a concrete way.

We advise you to refer to the action report for the present status of our environmental policy, environmental action plan, promoting structure, environmental accounting, etc.

We will make continuous efforts to improve environmental activities while operating the Environmental Management System and striving to make it an integral part of the entire management framework.

We are determined to further improve "environmental management" as well as facilitate mutual communications with local communities by listening to their opinions and advice.
