Continuous Efforts to Preserve the Regional Environment

For the operation of our thermal power stations and other facilities, we have made continuous efforts to preserve the regional environment by not only observing laws and regulations concerning environmental preservation but also concluding the "Voluntary Agreement for Environmental Pollution Control" and "Environmental Preservation Agreements" with local governments concerned.

We were awarded a Prize of the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry for Excellence in Greening by an Industrial Plant in October 2004 for our efforts in greening at Higashi-Niigata Thermal Power Station since the start of its construction with the aim of achieving harmony with the regional environment.

Concerning the operation of our nuclear power stations, our Company concluded "safety agreements" with local governments concerned to secure the safety of local communities and preserve the regional environment.
