Environmental Action Report 2002

TohokuEPCO works together with the community to promote environmental activities, including tree planting, volunteer environmental cleanup efforts and resource recycling, and to strengthen relations of mutual trust with the community. In FY2001, nearly 150 environmental programs with 10,000 participants were carried out in June, which is officially designated as Environmental Awareness Month.

For 10 years, our Aomori customer service office has donated 1,000 young beech trees to the local government, and planted them with children and their parents. By FY2001, the total number of planted trees amounted to 10,000.

TohokuEPCO has been working with teachers to develop multimedia software for practical application in the environmental education curriculum of elementary and junior high schools. To promote further interest and understanding concerning environmental issues, customer service offices organize environmental education programs based around hands-on experiences for the students.

TohokuEPCO has been working jointly with Electricity of Vietnam on the electrification of a rural village in Vietnam. We have installed a hybrid energy system combining solar and wind-power generators with storage batteries, and we are also collecting data on weather and power generation and evaluating the stability of the systems. This project received an award from the Minister of the Environment in the "FY2001 Activities for the Prevention of Global Warming."

TohokuEPCO has been working to promote interactive communication with customers and local communities.
In FY2001, we published 20,000 copies of our Environmental Action Report and distributed them to our customers. Additionally, we have conducted a thorough questionnaire survey and collected comments and requests in order to continue to improve our environmental activities.
